What is Insulator?

Insulator are those materials who offer a great resistance against electric current. In other words the electrical conductivity of insulator material is very low. But if we increase the P.D step by step a point occurred where insulator becomes a conductor. There are many types of insulator material for example glass, mica, silk, dry paper. oil etc.
